Compared to other churches, the Church of Our Lady in Alsemberg looks like a Gothic miniature cathedral. This pilgrimage church was built between the 14th and 16th centuries to honour a statue of Our Lady, allegedly donated to the parish in the 13th century by the Duchess of Brabant Sophia.
